French perfumes & cosmetics exports up by 11% in 2023

 

France is known for its mesmerising fragrances and quality beauty products. It is the world's biggest exporter of perfumes and cosmetics items. France import export data suggests that there was an 11% rise in the french perfumes and cosmetics products during 2023. Global market reports show that the perfumes and cosmetics exports exceeded 20 billion euros mark for the first time in a year.

Over 21.5 billion euros worth of cosmetics and beauty products exports were made by France in the last financial year. France export data shows that there was a 10% increase in French make-up and facial care products. The total export value for makeup and facial products was estimated to be 11 billion euros. Whereas, perfumes exports doubled to 7 billion euros with a strong increase of 10% last year.

On the other hand, France Hair care products recorded a sharp increase of 15% in 2023. European Union countries account for 40% of the French cosmetics exports. As per France customs data, around 8.5 billion euros worth of cosmetics products were exported across the European market. Among European countries, Germany, Italy and Spain were the top cosmetics importers from France last year. 

Also, there was huge demand for French makeup and facial care products in the European market showing 20% growth in 2023. Whereas, French perfumes exports surged to 2.7 billion euros last year with an 18% increase across Europe. After Europe, France's second main buyer was the United States. Compared to last year's reports, France perfumes exports grew by 2.5% in 2023. The exports were 1.4 billion euros. 

Also, the make-up and facial care exports to the United States grew by 5% with worth around 1.1 billion euros in 2023. Across the Asian front, French cosmetics and skin care products found profund market in China. China import data suggests that the country's french cosmetics imports were recorded to be 2 billion euros with 1.8% growth in 2023. 

Along with cosmetics, make-up, facial care exports grew by 3% followed by perfumes (2.5%). Although, the body care product exports to China decreased by 27% last year. Whereas, French cosmetics and skin care exports across the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia decreased by 8% and 20% respectively.

Inter Parfums, Expressions Parfumees, Elysee Cosmetiques, Groupe Rocher Operations and Guerlain were among the top French cosmetics and perfumes export companies last year. Apart from exports, France is among the top 10 importers of beauty products. As per France import data, the country’s beauty products imports were nearly $2 billion in 2023. The top markets for France beauty products imports were China, Germany, United States and Italy.
