  Indonesia stands out as the world's biggest thermal coal exporter during 2023. As per Indonesia import export data , the country has shipped over 361 MMT of thermal coal in 2023. Compared to the financial year 2022, the thermal coal exports were up by 56 MT and recorded a 12% increase. 2023 was the biggest year for Indonesia in terms of thermal coal exports as the country accounted for nearly half of the world's thermal coal exports. Indonesia's thermal coal exports are rising by 7% on a year by year increase. Indonesia's biggest thermal coal buyer was China, recording a 20% increase. As per Indonesia customs data reports, around 100 MMT of thermal coal imports were made by China. India was the second leading importer receiving 96 MMT of thermal coal last year.  Whereas, the Philippines was the third biggest buyer of Indonesian thermal coal.
