  Wheat is a highly imported product in Egypt. Egypt stands as the world’s leading wheat importer. According to the Egypt import export data reports, the country has wheat imports worth over $3.5 billion during fiscal year 2022. There was around a 5% increase in the imports of wheat by Egypt as compared to the previous year.  The majority of Egypt's wheat imports came from Russia which is the biggest wheat exporter in the world. In the financial year 2022, Russia was responsible for over 50% of Egypt’s overall wheat imports and valued at around $2.5 billion. Apart from Russia, Ukraine and Romania were other prominent wheat suppliers to Egypt with 18% share respectively. According to the Egypt import export data , around $69 million worth of dates were exported by Egypt during FY 2022. Russia was the leading importer of Egyptian dates contributing to over 20% share in Egypt's dates exports. Around $35 million worth of dates were imported from Egypt. Morocco remained the second leading importer of dates from Egypt. Egypt has done record dates exports to Morocco with over 17% share and estimated to be around $30 million during FY 2022. Egypt export data shows that over 32 thousand worth of dates were exported to Morocco during the last 12 months. This is the highest value ever recorded for Egypt's exports to Morocco.  After Morocco, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia accounted for the maximum number of shipments for Egypt's dated exports. According to the Egypt customs data reports, the country's overall imports declined by 18% during the fiscal year 2022. Around 9.6 MT of wheat imports were recorded in FY 2022. In 2021, wheat imports from Egypt totaled to be $4.35 billion. Annually, Egypt is importing 12 MMT of wheat. Egypt import export data suggests Russia is the top wheat exporter to Egypt contributing to over 57% share of Egypt's overall wheat imports. In 2021, Russia accounted for $2.48 billion worth of wheat exports to Egypt. Whereas, in 2022, it fell by 6.5%. This was due to the disruption in supply of wheat amid ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.
