Egypt's dates exports reached all time high during FY 2023

Egypt has recently gained ground across the global dates market. Egypt was the 8th leading dates exporter in the world. According to the Egypt import export data, around $69 million worth of dates were exported by Egypt during FY 2022. Russia was the leading importer of Egyptian dates contributing to over 20% share in Egypt's dates exports. Around $35 million worth of dates were imported from Egypt.

Morocco remained the second leading importer of dates from Egypt. Egypt has done record dates exports to Morocco with over 17% share and estimated to be around $30 million during FY 2022. Egypt export data shows that over 32 thousand worth of dates were exported to Morocco during the last 12 months. This is the highest value ever recorded for Egypt's exports to Morocco. 


After Morocco, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia accounted for the maximum number of shipments for Egypt's dated exports. As per Egypt customs data, these countries were responsible for over $22 million along with 12% share in Egypt's overall exports. Whereas, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, Turkey, Oman and the United Kingdom were other significant contributors to Egypt's dates exports.


The overall exports from Egypt were estimated to be around $176 million dollars during FY 2022. Iraq was the top exporter to Egypt during FY 2022 having over 24% share and estimated to be around $10 million. Whereas, Saudi Arabia and Kenya had over 22% share in Egypt's dates imports. Also, there was some noticeable amount of imports from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Costa Rica, Philippines and Uganda.


In terms of dry fruits exports, there was a growth of 8% during FY 2022. Egypt's overall edible fruits and nuts exports were estimated to be around $1.7 billion in FY 2022. Whereas during FY 2021, it was totaled to be $1.5 billion. These include citrus fruits, grapes, figs, avocados, guavas, apricots, melons, plums. 


During that year, Egypt has made most of its edible fruits exports shipments to Russia worth over $295 million. Saudi Arabia was the second leading importer of edible fruits from Egypt with worth around $216 million. Whereas, in terms of export share, Netherlands (7%), United Kingdom (6.9%), Syria (5.6%), United Arab Emirates ($4.6%) China (3.6%) and Germany (3.4%) have shown significant increase in Egypt's overall dry fruits exports.

On the other hand, the key edible fruits imports from Egypt include apples, brazilian buts, figs, guavas, mangosteens, cherries, peaches, and grapes. Egypt import data shows that around $636 million worth of products were imported in FY 2022. There was a 1.5% decline in the edible fruits and nuts imports by Egypt.


Poland and Italy were the leading edible fruits and nuts exporter to Egypt having worth over $240 million after the financial year 2022. Lebanon, Greece, United States, Vietnam, Syria, Iraq, Kenya and Turkey were other major edible fruits exporters to Egypt.
