Kenya eyes US & EU markets for apparel exports
Kenya is an agriculture centric country. Tea and Horticulture are the major exports of Kenya. Whereas, the textile sector is quite neglected. That is why the government is planning for the betterment of its textile sector. Kenya import export data shows that the country's textiles exports were $18 thousand during the financial year 2021 while it came down to $682 in 2022. There was a huge decline of 96% last year. Although, their textiles contributed to over9% share in Kenya’s overall exports. Kenya's textiles exports were limited to Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi. The Kenyan government is targeting the United States and European market. The latest Kenya export data shows that over $548 million worth of clothing and textiles exports have been made during this fiscal year.
