Mexico's scotch exports dropped by 30% in 2023

Mexico is the world's biggest market for scotch whisky and tequila exports. Mexico import export data shows that the country's overall revenue from this sector was $4.5 billion during last fiscal year. There was slight growth as compared to the previous year. These include tequila, scotch whisky, wine, beers, malt, etc. The highest growth was noticed during May 2023, where the exports were recorded to be $569 million. 

Among Mexico's top markets were the United States, Japan, Spain, England, Canada and Colombia. According to the Mexico export data, the United States was the biggest importer of alcohol from Mexico accounting for over 72% of Mexico's overall alcoholic items exports. In 2023, the United States imported around $3.2 billion worth of alcoholic beverages from Mexico.


Whereas, Mexico’s alcoholic beverages exports found demand across Germany and the Australian market. Casa Cuervo was the biggest alcoholic beverages exporter company from Mexico responsible for $635 million worth of shipments last year. Whereas, other prominent alcoholic companies from Mexico were Agroindustria Guadalajara, Diageo Mexico, Bacardi and Almexa Alumino. 


Mexico’s scotch whisky exports dropped by 30% in 2023. Mexico customs data shows that over $20 million dollars in the last fiscal year.  During June 2023, there was record increase in Mexico's scotch whisky exports. The United States and Turkey were the leading importers of Mexico's scotch whisky in 2023. 


The United States and Turkey were responsible for 15% and 7% share of Mexico's scotch whisky exports. Also, there was a notable amount of growth recorded across Japan, Cuba, Sweden, Jamaica and the Australian market. Ensamble Agavero and Licores Veracruz were the top scotch whisky export companies from Mexico in the last fiscal year. 


In terms of Mexico’s overall spirits and beverages exports, the country’s revenue was estimated to be $10 billion during fiscal year 2023. These include beer, malt, tequila, mineral waters, spirituous beverages, malt whisky, etc. The United States accounted for 80% of Mexico's overall beverage exports. Guatemala, Colombia, Spain, Japan, and England have shown interest in the spirits, beverages from Mexico.  


Cervecera De Coahuila and Casa Cuervo were the top Mexican companies in terms of spirits and beverages exports.  Diageo North America from the USA, Motta International from Japan and Mexcor from Spain were the top buyers of Mexican spirits and beverages last year. 


Whereas, Mexico import data shows that around $2 billion worth of spirits and beverages imports were recorded in the last fiscal year. Mexico's beverages imports came from over 100+ countries. In which, the United States, England, France and Spain were the biggest beverages supplying countries to Mexico with 20%, 19%, 14% and 9% share respectively. Among the fastest growing markets for Mexico's beverages imports were Italy, Chile, Argentina and Guatemala.


Mexico is the biggest player in the global spirits and beverages market.
