Pakistan's Exports To Middle East Went Down By 10%

ver the years, Pakistan and Middle Eastern countries have been important trade partners. Pakistan shares a good amount of exports to the top Middle Eastern countries. As per the import export data reports, exports to the Middle Eastern countries have been on a year on year decline of 11%. 

For the financial year 2023, Pakistani exports to Middle Eastern countries were around 1.8 billion US dollars. The United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar were the top markets for Pakistani Exports. One important cause of decline in middle eastern exports from Pakistan was mainly the drop in UAE's imports from Pakistan in FY 2022.

Pakistan’s Top 3 Exports Market


United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is the top importer of goods from Pakistan. According to the Pakistan import export data, the United Arab Emirates covers over 64% of the total Pakistan exports. 


According to the Pakistan export data reports, the total exports from Pakistan to the UAE were around 1.24 billion US Dollars. While in FY 2022, it came down to 945 million dollars. The top Pakistan exports to the UAE were rice, clothes, bovine meat, mangoes, guavas, cereals, vegetables.


Dubai was the top destination for Pakistan exports for over 856 million dollars. It was 15% more as compared to last year. Experts predict that Pakistan exports to the UAE will cross 10 billion dollars in 2023.

 

On the other hand, Pakistan’s imports from UAE were around 7 billion dollars in FY 2022. As per the Pakistan import data, the major imports from UAE to Pakistan were petroleum oils and scrap iron. Seeing the economic crisis in Pakistan, the imports from UAE will further increase in FY 2023.


Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is the second biggest market for Pakistan's exports in the financial year 2022. According to the Pakistan customs data reports, Pakistan's exports to Saudi Arabia were around 540 million dollars in FY22. There was around 15% rise in Pakistan exports to Saudi Arabia as compared to the last year. The major Pakistan exports were rice, spices, bovine carcasses, edible offal, textile, tent materials etc. 


While Pakistan's imports from Saudi Arabia were mostly crude petroleum, propylene and ethylene polymers. Recently, Pakistan has signed a free trade pact with Saudi Arabia to foster bilateral trade.


Qatar

Qatar was the third largest market for Pakistan exports. According to the Pakistan trade data, Qatar did total exports of over 419 million dollars in the fiscal year 2022. There was a drop of 3% in Pakistan's exports from Qatar as compared to 431 million dollars in 2021.


Pakistan shipment data suggests that the top product exports were rice, bovine meat, mangoes, guavas, onions, potatoes, passenger ships. On the other hand, the major imports by Pakistan from Qatar were petroleum gas and chemical products. As per the top economists, Pakistan's exports might see a downward trend in FY23 due to the domestic crisis.
