Brazil exports to Gulf countries record $18 B during FY 22-23
In the Financial year 2022, Brazil's trade with Arab countries reached an all time high. According to the Brazil export data reports, the exports to Arab nations were estimated around 17 billion dollars during the financial year 2022. These include Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, Bahrain, etc.
Compared to last year's reports, there was an increase of 23%. Along with Arab countries other major partners of Brazil were China, Europe, and South American nations. The top contributors to Brazil exports to middle east countries were agri products including grains and meat.
According to the Brazil import export data, agro products contribute around 71% of the total Brazil exports. These were mostly halal foods. Being the largest producer and supplier of foods, Brazil has been the prominent supplier of meat and poultry products to Arab nations.
Currently, due to the war crisis in Ukraine and Russia, the supply of corn and wheat has interrupted. There is a hike in grain prices in the global market. Brazil has emerged as the top chicken supplier to Arab countries. Arab countries are likely to raise their quota of chicken from Brazil in exchange for oil. In 2022, Brazil exported around 2,172 dollars per tonne of Chicken to Arab nations.
According to the import export data reports globally, there was an increase of 41% in the exports from Brazil to Saudi Arabia. Brazil exports to Saudi Arabia reached 2.9 billion dollars in FY 2022 from 2 billion dollars in FY 2021. The major product exports from Brazil to Saudi Arabia are poultry meat, sugar, corn and soybeans.
The United Arab Emirates was the second largest importing country from Brazil in FY 2022 with an overall 40% increase in imports from Brazil. It came to 3.3 billion dollars from 2.32 billion dollars during 2022. These include gold, sugar, and poultry meat. While according to Brazil import data, the major imports includes refined petroleum sulphur, and broadcasting equipment.
Egypt was the third largest importer of Brazilian goods. There was a 41% increase in imports of goods from Brazil to Egypt. As per Brazil customs data, around 2.8 billion dollars imports of Brazilian goods to Egypt during the fiscal year 2022.
While Qatar and Kuwait were other major importers to Brazil. Brazilian exports to Qatar saw a rise of 45%. In 2022, around $413 million worth of goods imported from Brazil to Qatar. By 2021, it was 284 million dollars. Brazilian exports to Kuwait rose to record 300 million dollars during the financial year 2022. It will increase by 56% in 2022. Whereas in 2021, it was estimated around 193 million dollars. The top products exported from Brazil to these countries were maize, sugar, meat and soybeans.
