Brazil's Cotton Exports Market

 Brazil is the second largest cotton exporter in the world after the United States. For the financial year 2022, Brazil's cotton exports grew by 9%. According to the Brazil import export data reports, cotton exports from Brazil accounted for around 3.9 billion dollars.

Compared to last year, Brazil's cotton exports were 3.2 billion dollars. Our Brazil customs data suggests that China, Vietnam, Turkey, Pakistan and Bangladesh are the top destinations for Brazil's cotton exports.

During this period, Vietnam was the leading destination for Brazil's exports worth 30 million dollars followed by Bangladesh, Turkey, Pakistan and Indonesia. Whereas, the United States and Paraguay were the major cotton exporters to Brazil.


China is the leading destination for Brazil's cotton exports. It makes up over 30% share of Brazil's total cotton exports. Brazil exported around 1 billion dollars worth cotton to China during the fiscal year 20222.


Vietnam was the second largest cotton importing destination from Brazil. It covers over 20% of Brazil's total cotton exports. In 2022, Brazil's cotton exports to Vietnam totaled to be 546 million dollars. Whereas, in 2021, it was around 571 million dollars and 518 million dollars in 2020.


Bangladesh has emerged as the major destination for Brazil's cotton exports. Brazil's cotton exports to Bangladesh are growing at great pace. Bangladesh covers over 13% share of Brazil's total cotton exports.


According to the Brazil export data, the cotton exports from Brazil to Bangladesh were estimated around 489 million in FY 2022 dollars which was more as compared to 314 million dollars during 2020.


Currently, the United States is the leading cotton exporter. In the financial year 2022, the cotton exports were around 3.2 million metric tons.  Brazil stands second in the cotton exports list with over 1.7 million metric tons. In terms of export volume, other cotton exporters are India (871 MMT), Australia (871 MMT), Greece (305 MMT), Benin (305 MMT), Ivory Coast (299 MMT) and Mali (239 MMT).
