Thailand's fabric exports to Cambodia

 Thailand is among the top 10 fabrics exporting countries globally. According to the Thailand import export data reports, the fabrics exports from Thailand reached 7 billion dollars during the financial year 2022.

Whereas, last year fabric exports from Thailand were estimated around 6.5 billion dollars.  That was around 4% more as compared to last year. Out of which, 1.2 billion worth textiles were exported from Thailand to ASEAN nations. These include fibres, readymade garments, and yarn.


As per Thailand customs data, textiles were mostly exported to the United States, Japan, Russia, United Kingdom and China. Vietnam was the leading importer of textiles from Thailand with over 35% share of Thailand's total fabric exports. China was the second largest destination for Thailand textiles with over 25% share of imports.


On the other hand, Thailand's fabric imports rose to 1.3 billion dollars during 2022. As compared to last year Thailand import data reports, around 1.2 billion dollars worth of fabric imports from Thailand were recorded. It was around 13% more in comparison to 2022 imports. The major markets for imports of fabrics by Thailand were Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.


Cambodia was the third largest importer of textiles from Thailand followed by Singapore, Brazil and Myanmar. Latest Thailand export data of fabrics suggests that the exports of textiles from Thailand to Cambodia was around 157 million dollars  during the fiscal year 2022. The United States is an important trading partner to both countries. The United States trade with Thailand was 45 billion dollars while it was 10 billion dollars in 2021.


Cambodia and Thailand are important trading partners. Both the nations are working collaboratively to achieve 15 billion dollars bilateral trade by 2025. Thailand has been the prominent exporter of textiles to Cambodia. According to the import export data records, Thailand textiles exports to Cambodia reached 157 million dollars during the 2022 period.


Compared to 123 million dollars textiles exports last year, there was a 27% increase in textile imports by Cambodia from Thailand. In comparison to Thailand's textile exports, Cambodia's textile exports to Thailand were minimal. For the financial year 2022, petroleum products, sugar, gold, cars, trucks, cement were the top exports from Thailand to Cambodia. The major products exported from Cambodia to Thailand were Cassava, Wires, Scrap Aluminium, Lead, Vegetables, Iron concentrates.
