For the financial year 2023, Mexico's corn production reached an all time high of 28 million metric tonnes. As compared to last year's production, there was an increase of around 2 million metric tonnes. This is mainly due to the rise in corn plantation area. Production wise, Mexico is the 7th largest corn exporter in the world.

According to the Mexico customs data of corn, around 53 million dollars worth corn was exported from Mexico during the fiscal year 2022. There was around a 90% decline in exports of Mexican corn.


Mexico made most of its corn export shipments to Guatemala, Peru, Venezuela, EL Salvador and the United States. Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and Turkey are the fastest growing destinations for Mexican corn exports. Whereas Mexican corn exports to Venezuela, Zimbabwe and Kenya have declined significantly.


On the other hand, our Mexico import data of corn suggests that around 18 billion dollars worth of corn imports were made by Mexico. There was an increase of 4 billion dollars as compared to the previous year. Mexico is the second largest corn importer globally. Corn is the 12th most imported commodity in Mexico. 


The United States is the top market for Mexico's corn imports. As per Mexico import export data, Mexico contributes to around 27% share of the USA's total corn exports. It was around 5 billion dollars. Brazil, Chile, France and Thailand were other major suppliers of corn to Mexico.


For the financial year 2023, Mexico's corn imports are expected to decline by 4% as the Mexican government has imposed a 50% tariff on India's corn exports. For this year, Mexican corn imports could reach only 17 million tonnes.


Agro Enns, Granos y Plasticos and Bojormex are currently the top corn import export companies from Mexico. This year, Brazil had better harvest and it could fade USA's dominance in the global corn export market. It could become the major corn supplier to Mexico posing stiff competition to the USA.


This year, Mexico's agri exports increased by 7%. During January-February 2023, the agri goods exports fromMexico hit a record 8 billion dollars. Vegetables, Fruits and Beverages exports from Mexico accounted for over 60% of the total Mexican agri exports.


According to Mexico export data, around 50 billion dollars agri exports were recorded by Mexico in FY 2022. In which, beer, tequila, mezcal, avocadoes, tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries, and bakery products were among the most exported agri goods from Mexico.
