Rise in Bangladesh's mango exports in FY22

Bangladesh mango exports had seen rapid growth during the financial year 2022. In the fiscal year 2022, Bangladesh mango exports doubled to around 4000 tons. According to last year Bangladesh customs data, the Bangladesh mango exports were 1757 tons with worth around 236 thousand dollars. Whereas, in 2020, it was mere 40 thousand dollars.

Currently, Bangladesh exports its mangoes to over 15+ countries. Earlier, it was limited to 2-3 countries only. These include the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Italy, Bhutan, India, Britain, Kuwait, Netherlands, Singapore, etc. The top mango varieties exported from Bangladesh include Himsagar, Khirshapat, Amrapali and Langra. The top mango export companies from Bangladesh are Himsagar Mango, Mangoes, Adib Prottoy, Perfect Living, Hayatee Agro and Mehedi Masud.


The Bangladesh government has set the target of 600 thousand dollars worth mango exports for this year.  Bangladesh top agriculturists predict that the country's total mango production could cross 28 lakh tonnes for this year.


On the other hand, Bangladesh's mango imports increased to 196% this year. According to the Bangladesh import data, India was the leading exporter to Bangladesh with over 73% share of Bangladesh's total mango exports. Egypt, Kenya and Indonesia were the top exporters of Mango from Bangladesh.


Guava is another major fruit export commodity from Bangladesh. Last year, its production crossed over 1.5 million metric tonnes. In 2022, there was around 1% increase in the exports of Guava from Bangladesh. Around 750 thousand worth of guava’s were exported from Bangladesh during FY 2022. The United Kingdom, Italy, Qatar and Sweden were the top destinations for Bangladesh guava’s exports.


Production wise litchi is the second largest fruit exported commodity from Bangladesh. Bangladesh currently exports its litchi to over 75+ nations. From 1.81 lakh tonnes to over 2 lakh tonnes, Bangladesh litchi production has improved significantly. The European countries were the top destinations for the exports of litchi from Bangladesh.


During the financial year 2022, Bangladesh’s banana’s exports saw improvement. According to the Bangladesh export data, around 583 thousand dollars exports were recorded in FY 2022. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait were the major markets for Bangladesh banana exports. Ireland and France are the emerging markets for Bangladesh litchi exports.


Kashmiri Apples are also among popular Bangladeshi fruits exports. During the financial year 2022, around 12000 metric tonnes  of kashmiri apples were exported. As per Bangladesh import export data, around 8000 metric tonnes worth Kashmiri apples were exported to Nepal in 2022. Whereas, Bangladesh overall apple exports grew by 250% in 2022. Sweden was the top importer of Bangladeshi apples with over 60% share of total exports. Other major importing countries were the United Arab Emirates and Belgium.

  Sri Lanka is likely to import ethanol from India. Sri Lanka has shown immense interest in importing mixed petrol and diesel from India to support its domestic market.
