USA's textiles imports up by 16% in FY22
The United States is the leading importer in the world. According to the US customs data reports, the country's total imports in FY 2022 accounted for over 3.5 billion dollars. Some of the most imported products by the US were crude, refined petroleum, pharmaceuticals, furniture, plastics, medical equipment, gemstones, chemicals and textiles.
As per the US import export data reports, the important trading partners of the USA are China, Mexico, Canada, Germany and Japan.Textiles were among the hot import commodities from the US. In 2022, the USA's imports of textiles will see a significant growth of 16%.
The US import data reflects that the country's textiles imports were around 113 billion dollars in 2021 while it came down to 132 billion dollars in 2022. China's textiles exports contributed to around 23% share of USA's total imports. The second largest crucial textile exporter was Vietnam with a share of over 14%.
Whereas, the US textiles imports from Nicaragua, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, and Cambodia had increased in 2022. Nicaragua exports of textiles to the USA were 42% more while Bangladesh's were 35% in 2022.
According to the India export data reports, India's textiles exports to the US were 35% more compared to 2021. Indonesia accounted for the 34% annual increase in textiles exports to the USA.
In the financial year 2022, Cambodia has emerged as the top destination for non apparel exports to the USA. Non-Apparel exports from Cambodia to the USA soared 48%. Whereas Vietnam and Italy followed the same pattern. Turkish textiles exports to the USA declined by 10% in FY 2022.
The Apparel and textiles category accounted for over 96 billion dollars worth of imports by the USA. Whereas, the imports of non-apparel textiles category was 31 billion dollars. The US trade data suggests that the country's total textiles and apparel exports were 132 billion dollars in 2022.
In which, cotton made fabrics worth 54 billion dollars while synthetic fibres products accounted for over 68 billion dollars during the fiscal year 2022. Whereas wool and silk fibre products were estimated around $4B and $2.8B dollars respectively. Earlier in FY 2020, the US textiles imports were mere 83 billion dollars. But in 2022, USA's textiles imports had grown. The forecasts for 2023 show a similar pattern.
