Philippines pineapples exports up by 5.5% in FY 2022
The Philippines is home to a diverse variety of fruits. These include pineapple, dragon fruit, mangosteen, rambutan, langsat, pomela, durian, santol, java apple, and longon, etc. The Philippines is currently the second biggest exporter of pineapples in the world. There was around a 5.5% increase in the exports of pineapples from the Philippines.
According to the Philippines import export data reports, over 5,80,000 metric tons of pineapples were exported from the Philippines. Philippines overall pineapple exports are totaled to be $352 million in FY 2022. Whereas in 2021, exports were 335 million dollars.
In the fiscal year 2022, Japan was the leading importer of pineapples from the Philippines, having over 30% share. Japan was followed by South Korea having 13% share in Philippines overall pineapple exports. Whereas, China, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and Qatar are other significant importers of pineapple from the Philippines.
Whereas, Philippines pineapples imports came most from China which had a 40% share in the country's overall pineapple imports. According to the Philippines import data, there were around $125 K worth of pineapple imports recorded by the Philippines in the financial year 2022. After China, Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and the United States were other major pineapple exporters to the Philippines during 2022.
Philippines imports are mostly growing in China, the United States and Thailand while exports to China, South Korea and Japan have seen rapid rise. On the other hand, Philippines pineapples exports to Iran, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain had declined significantly.
Experts predict that Philippines pineapples exports volume will cover over 18% of the global pineapple exports market. Whereas, Costa Rica could account for over 65% share in the global market.
Among the Asian regions, the Philippines along with Thailand, Indonesia, India and China are the top producers of pineapples. The pineapple's demand mostly came from the United States and the European markets. Philippines pineapples exports are expected to grow by 5% this year.
