China's dragon fruits imports from Vietnam decline amid rise in production
Although, there was a significant decline of 37% as compared to the financial year 2021. Consequently, China’s dragon fruit imports are declining due to strict import duties. There was a 42% decrease in the exports of dragon fruits compared to FY 2021. The latest China import export data shows that China has cut down its dragon fruit imports from Vietnam by 30% in August 2023.
Whereas, China import data shows that there was a 50% decline in the dragon fruits imports from Vietnam which covers over 99% share in China’s overall dragon fruits imports. The total value during the first half of Fy 2023 for China’s dragon fruit imports was estimated to be $142 million. This is basically due to the rise in dragon fruit production in China.
Apart from dragon fruits, other key fruits imports are fresh durians, cherries, bananas, mangosteens, and coconuts.Duraian fruits have a separate fan base in China. During the fiscal year 2022, the total import shipments for fresh durians were worth around $4.5 billion. In which Thailand has over 90% share. Whereas, Vietnam was the second largest durian fruits exporter to China contributing to around $194 million exports.
On the other hand, Vietnam's fresh cherries are in great demand in China. There is around 12% year on year increase in the imports of berries by China. As per global import export data reports, China had imported over 1.2 billion worth of cherries during FY 2022. The key cherry suppliers to China were Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.
Whereas, the imports of Bananas, Mangosteens, and Coconuts amounted for $1.2 Billion, $625 million and $575 million respectively. The most favoured destinations for imports of these fruits by China were Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia and Ecuador.
In terms of fruits exports, China's top fruits export categories include apple, table grapes, grapefruit, pears, and citrus fruits. According to the China export data, the country's top fruits export market are Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Japan and the United States. The overall value for China’s fruits exports was totaled to be $5.3 billion during FY 2022.
Fresh apples were among the top fruits exports from China. The exports volume for apples exports from China was estimated to be $1.1 billion in FY 2022. Indonesia was the top importer of China's fresh apples although there was a decline of 2.2% compared to previous year. After Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Philippines and Thailand were other key fresh apples exporters.
On The other hand, In FY 2022, China’s table grapes, citrus fruits, fresh pears, grapefruits export figures were estimated to be $730 million, $720 million, $500 million and $125 million respectively.
