Mexico's chicken imports to increase by 5% this year
 The broiler demand in the Mexican market has seen a tremendous rise this year. The forecast shows around 5% growth in broilers imports is expected. This covers the 20% demand of the domestic Mexican market. According to the Mexican import export data reports, chicken imports from Mexico fell by 2.2% and reduced to 750K tons last year. The overall Mexican imports of chicken are estimated around $965 million in FY 2022.

Mexico customs data shows that the United States was the leading market for broiler imports with over 80% share in total Mexico broilers imports. The overall value for broilers imports from the United States was estimated around $750 million during FY 2022. After the United States, Brazil is the second leading market for broilers imports. In FY 2022, Brazil has exported around $210 million worth of exports. The demand for Brazilian chicken is increasing at the rate of 28%. As, it was $25 million in 2022.


Other major markets for Mexican chicken exports are Canada, China, Guatemala, Spain, France, Netherlands and Costa Rica. Some of the top broilers export companies to Mexico were Farmers cooperative, Pilgrims pride, CHS INC, Archer Daniels midland company and Cargil incorporated. 


The current global import export data provider shows the data reports that the chicken meat imports by Mexico declined to 6% during the first 6 months of FY 2023. Whereas, in terms of exports, Mexico chicken exports are declining continuously. In the fiscal year 2022, Chicken meat exports from Mexico fell by 50% to 75 tons. 


Whereas, Mexico export data reports suggest that the broiler exports from Mexico were mostly to Ghana. Although, as compared to the 2021 Mexico exports reports, Ghana's imports of chicken meat from Mexico were estimated around $81 thousand. There was a 40% decline in the chicken imports by Ghana.


Along with Ghana, the United States, Hong Kong, Benin, Kuwait, and Vietnam were other major markets where Mexican chicken exports declined significantly. In 2021, US chicken imports were $39 whereas during 2022, it came down to $19, with an overall 50% decrease. Whereas, chicken exports to Hong Kong declined by 55%, Benin (15%), Kuwait (50%) and Vietnam (55%). 


The Experts are predicting that exports this year will be 60% lower as the demand for Mexican chicken is quite low. Mexico chicken exports are expected to reach 5000 million tonnes in FY 2023. Apart from broilers, there was a significant decline in the exports of pork and bovine from Mexico. 


During August 2023, the pork export shipments totaled to be $645 million with a decline of 1.5%. The overall shipments were estimated to be 226 K metric tons. The major markets for Mexico's pork exports were Japan, Central America, Dominican Republic, Canada, Taiwan and Oceania. 


Whereas, the overall pork exports were 10% and were valued around $5.2 billion. There were around 1.8 MMT shipments of pork made this year. On the other hand, Mexico's bovine meat exports fell by 18% to 108K MT. The country's total bovine meat exports were valued around $6.5 billion with an increase of 19% as compared to the last year. The top destinations for Mexico's bovine meat exports were Japan and South Korea.
