Currently, Australia is ranked the leading wool exporter in the world. It is the 14th most exported item by Australia. Australia import export data shows that over $3.5 billion worth of wool was exported by the country during FY 2022. Australia's wool exports grew significantly as compared to the financial year 2021. During FY 2021, Australia's wool exports were estimated to be around $2.2 billion.

Australia export data shows China as the leading wool importer from Australia.  Australian wool sales to China skyrocketed during FY 2022 as it hit a record $1.7 billion. Secondly, Italy has made a record $155 million wool imports from Australia in FY 2022. India, Czech Republic, South Korea, Egypt, Thailand, Germany, United Arab Emirates and Japan were other key importers of Australian wool.

Fox and Lillie company from Australia had over 24% share in the overall Australian wool exports. Australia is also the leading market for greasy wool. Australia trade statistics shows that the country covers over 25% share of the global market.


Techwool Trading is the top greasy wool exporting company from Australia. According to the Australia customs data, Techwool trading accounted for over 18% share of Australia's overall wool exports. On the other hand, the wool imports from Australia were recorded to be merely $38 million during FY 2022. New Zealand was the most favoured destination for Australian wool imports.


It is derived from the fact that 85% of Australia's overall wool imports came from New Zealand. Whereas, China, United Kingdom and South Africa were other major wool exporters to Australia during last financial year. Australian Textile Mills, Akubra Hats, Humphrey Law and EC Carpets are some of the leading wool importing companies from Australia. 


As per Australia import data, Australian Textile Mills accounted for the maximum amount of imports covering over 10% shipment volume of Australia’s overall textile exports. Grasim Industries, Cong TY Tnhh and Kapotex Industries are the top wool suppliers to Australia. They had an overall 45% share in Australia's overall wool imports.

Whereas, Australia is the highest importer of apparel products globally. Australia imports statistics that are around $5.3 billion dollars. Although, the apparel imports of Australia have declined as compared to previous year. It is estimated to be $7.2 billion during FY 2021. China alone accounted for over $3.2 billion worth of garments exports to Australia in FY 2022. 


Other key garment exporters to Australia were Turkey, Bangladesh, Vietnam and India. Australia’s garments imports include trousers, shorts, jerseys, tshirts, etc. Some of the top garments import companies from Australia are Shaw of Australia, Ace Filters Australasia, Albany International Corp, and Warwick Fabrics Australia. Shaw of Australia accounted for over 10% share in Australia's overall garments imports during FY 2022.
