UAE has emerged as the top destination for Botswana's exports
 Botswana's economy relies mostly on diamonds and metals exports. Botswana export data shows that diamonds cover over 88% of the country's overall exports whereas the rest of the exports were mostly from metals and dairy products. Botswana’s exports found ground in the Asian market as it was responsible for 60% of Botswana's overall exports.

Among Asian countries, the UAE and India were among the top  destinations for Botswana’s exports. Botswana import export data reflects that the UAE was responsible for over 30% and India was 12% share. Diamonds were the major imports made by the UAE from Botswana accounting for over 90% share and the rest were scrap waste, precious stones, metals, nuclear reactors, meat products.


De Beers Global, Okavango Diamond and Diacore Botswana were the top export companies from Botswana to the United Arab Emirates. During November, the maximum amount of shipments were recorded. On the other hand, India’s imports from Botswana crossed over $1.2 billion during the last 12 months.


Botswana customs data suggests that diamonds were the most exported commodity by Botswana with over 79% share. Whereas, copper was the second most imported item by India with over 2% share. Kiran Gems from India was the top importer from India accounting for over 9% share of Botswana’s exports to India.


De Beers Global was the top Botswana supplier with over 29% export share to India. Whereas, Eminent Gems, Rudra Diam and K.P. Sanghvi Middle East are among the major goods suppliers to Botswana. Apart from India and the UAE, Belgium was the most prominent importer for Botswana’s product exports.


Belgium was responsible for over 1 billion dollars worth of exports from Botswana. The demand for Botswana’s diamond, copper, plastics and live trees has seen rapid growth in the Belgium market. De Beers and Okavango Diamond have made the maximum amount of shipments to Belgium accounting for over 60% share in the Belgium market.


Whereas, South Africa was another major market for Botswana’s exports. South Africa was responsible for over 9% share in Botswana's overall exports. These include diamonds, cables for vehicles, ships, aircrafts, bovine meat, chemicals, plastic pipes, etc. Kromberg & Schubert Eastern Cape and Sparta Baby Beef were the top import companies from South Africa responsible for the maximum amount of shipments during the financial year 2022. De Beers Global and Botswana Ash Proprietary were the most prominent suppliers to South Africa. 


On the other hand, 50% of Botswana's overall imports came from South Africa. As per Botswana import data, Namibia, Belgium, Canada, China, India and Switzerland were the top suppliers to Botswana. The key exports of Botswana include diamonds, paints, ships, machinery, and detergents. Engen Namibia, Bonas-couzyn and Debeers Consolidated Mines were the top exporters to Botswana.
