China has emerged as the biggest market for Vietnam's fruits exports
China is a prominent importer of fruits. The country is witnessing a rapid increase in fruit imports over the year amid growing demand. According to the China import export data reports, there was around 20% increase in the fruits imports from China during the financial year 2023. China's fruits imports were estimated to be around $18 billion in FY 2023.
These include fresh cherries, dragon fruits, macadamia nuts, bananas, cashew nuts, citrus fruits, melons, mangoes, pineapples and coconuts. Vietnam was the top fruits supplier to China accounting for the majority of fruits imports. Whereas, Thailand, Chile, New Zealand, Peru, Philippines, Cambodia, South Africa and Indonesia were other major markets preferred by China for fruit imports.
Being the biggest trading partner of China, Vietnam was responsible for $3.4 billion during fiscal year 2023. As per China import data reports, Vietnamese agricultural products imports by China hit a record $7.2 billion in 2023. China’s 10% of the fruits imports came from Vietnam in which durian fruits were the top imported fruits having over 25% market share. Whereas, other major fruits imports include dragon fruits (13%), bananas (6%), jackfruits (6%), mango (6%).
China customs data shows that the bilateral trade between China and Vietnam crossed over $231 billion in 2023. After Vietnam, Chile was the top fruits supplier to China with over 32% market share. Among which fresh cherries were the top most imported fruits by China from Chile. Apricots, grapes, peaches, blueberries, mangosteens, etc.
Thailand was the third leading market for fruits exporter to China. Thai fruits such as coconut, durian fruits, mango, guava, and mangosteen have significant demand in the Chinese market. In the last three months of FY 2023, Thailand has exported over $191 million to China.
Nong Le Chan and Guangdong Nanxing Rainbow were the top fruit importers from China. On the other hand, China export data shows around $6.3 billion during the fiscal year 2022-23. The key fruits exports from China include apples, watermelons, pomelos, Guavas, mangoes, mandarins, mangosteens, etc.
The top destinations for China's fruit exports were mostly the Philippines, Indonesia, Ukraine, Bangladesh and Vietnam. Philippines and Indonesia had over 31% and 28% market share in China's fruits exports. Qixia Defeng Food and Xiamen Rayen were the top fruit export companies from China.
In terms of dried fruits exports, China ranked 4th across the world. The United States is the top importer of dried fruits from China. Apart from the United States, Germany, Vietnam, Japan and Hong Kong are the fastest growing markets for China's dried fruits exports.
