Pakistan's copper exports to China reached $1 Billion in 2023
Pakistan’s copper industry is underutilised. Last year, Pakistan’s copper exports saw significant growth. According to Pakistan import export data reports, the country’s overall refined copper exports to China reached $1 billion during the financial year 2023. China alone was responsible for over 99% share in Pakistan’s overall copper exports.

Whereas, the United Arab Emirates was the second leading importer of refined copper from Pakistan. The UAE was responsible for over $999 thousand worth of copper imports from Pakistan. Slovenia, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Iraq and Uzbekistan were the fastest growing markets for Pakistan's refined copper exports.


Cannon Metal Works and AK Brothers Metal from Pakistan were the leading refined copper export companies from Pakistan. As per Pakistan export data, these companies contributed to over 19% share in the country's overall copper exports. Brother Metal Traders, Babar Brothers and Ocean Metals were some other prominent export companies from Pakistan.


Qas Metals, Foshan Ruishan Import, Jintian Copper Group, and Sansing Limited were the top copper import companies from China responsible for the maximum amount of import shipments from Pakistan. China has played a crucial role in reviving Pakistan's copper industry. Compared to the previous year, China's imports were up by 9%. 


Chinese companies have made a significant amount of investment to boost copper manufacturing in pakistan. This enabled Pakistan to produce high quality, durable and value added copper products.  Pakistani exporters are likely to approach Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC), the leading copper manufacturing company from China which was active during 1995.


Whereas, Pakistan import data reflects that around $306 million worth of imports of copper and its articles were made to Pakistan during fiscal year 2023. During May 2023, the highest amount of copper import shipments made by Pakistan was around $40 million with over 13% share. Pakistan's majority of the copper import shipments came from the United States and China.


As per Pakistan customs data reports, the US was responsible for $105 million worth of imports whereas China exported over $85 million worth of copper articles. Zambia was the third biggest copper supplier to Pakistan contributing to over 10% share. Some of the fastest growing markets for Pakistan’s copper imports were the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Belgium, Vietnam and Malaysia.


Among Pakistani importers, Mughal iron and steel industries were the top copper buyers during 2023 contributing to over 18% share of Pakistan's copper imports. Brother Metal Works, HNR Company and Pakistan Cables were other significant import companies from Pakistan. 


SSR International from the USA, Shanghai Hailiang Copper from China and Glencore International from Zambia were the leading copper export companies to Pakistan during last year. With Pakistan’s copper exports increasing at an express rate, it's the best time to fetch this opportunity with both hands.
