Thai fruits market to seek positive growth this year
 Thailand is not only home to beautiful landscapes, stunning beaches, pleasant climate but also known for different varieties of fruits. Thailand is a well known market for fruit exports. Thailand has witnessed rapid growth during the last year. According to Thailand import export data reports, the Thai fruits exports hit a record $7.8 billion dollars during fiscal year 2023. It is expanding at the rate of 2.2%.

Thailand’s most exported fruits items are durian fruits, pomegranates, betel nuts, tamarind, dragon fruit, guavas, mangoes, mangosteens, cashew nuts, coconuts, longan, and custard apple. Thailand export data shows that the country’s pomegranate exports accounted for 45% of the country’s overall fruits exports. Whereas, betel nuts were responsible for 11% market share.


Durian was the most exported fruit from Thailand and also the third biggest agricultural export of the country. Thailand customs data shows that the country's durian fruits exports hit a record $3.4 billion during the financial year 2023. China accounted for 90% of Thailand's overall fruits exports followed by Vietnam, Malaysia and Philippines.  


Also, Thailand is the third biggest supplier of the coconut across the world. The country's coconut exports were nearly $386 million in FY 2023. 80% of Thailand's overall exports were made to China followed by the United States, Hong Kong and Australia. 


Thailand's fresh fruits sales were up by 27% whereas frozen fruits and processed fruits sales rose to 25% & 10% respectively. Thai fruits drew great attention from the Chinese market while exports to the US and EU have declined significantly. China accounted for 75% of Thailand's overall fruits exports. Whereas, US, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Vietnam were other major fruit buyers from Thailand. 


Platinum fruits and Inter fresh from Thailand were the top fruits export companies responsible for the maximum number of shipments during last year. Whereas, Thai Hong Fruit, World's coconut trading, and Best Fruit were other major fresh fruits export companies from Thailand in 2023.


In terms of imports, the overall imports made by Thailand were estimated to be around $864 million during last year. These include areca nuts, peach, cashew nuts, coconuts, lemon, dragon fruits, guavas, grapes. Thailand import data shows that 35% of the country's overall fruits imports came from China. 


These include citrus fruits, grapes, apples and pears. New Zealand, Cambodia, Peru, Malaysia and Israel were other major importers of fruits from Thailand. Heritage Snacks & Food, Thai Coconut Public Company and Siamfirstintertrade were the major import companies from Thailand. 


The demand for Thailand's fruit exports is very unlikely to fall. The government has planned to raise date palm, salak, and passion fruit to China. Also, the emphasis is on exporting coconut husk to Saudi Arabia, mango, pomelo, lychee, pineapple and longan to Australia and lychee, dragon fruits, rambutan, pomelo exports to the USA.
