Turkey's leather exports projected to reach 2.8 billion euros by 2028

Turkey's leather exports were on rise during the financial year 2023. It has seen record growth as compared to last year. According to the Turkey import export data reports, the country's leather exports recorded over $58 million in 2023. These include mens jackets, leather belts, leather trousers, faux leather, lambskin leather, leather patches, men's coats, natural leather, etc.

Leather jackets were the most exported items from Turkey accounting for over 50% share of exports. Turkey export data shows that Tajikistan was the top importer of Turkish leather goods with over $8 million worth of leather imports. Germany was the second biggest destination for Turkish leather exports with imports over $6.5 million. There were significant amounts of leather exports made to France, United States, Netherlands, Russia and Kazakhstan. 


The new markets for Turkey's leather exports were found in the form of Kazakhstan, Israel, Italy and the United Kingdom. According to the Turkey customs data reports, the maximum amount of leather imports were recorded during June and March month and is estimated to be 13.5 million dollars respectively. During this period, the leading leather exporting Turkish companies were DGS DI TI Caret Anon M Rket, Sakis Leather Textile Industry and Agamoda Leather Apparel Industry.


Ooo Ustuvor from Tajikistan, Arma Leder from Netherlands, and Galita USA LLC were the top leather importing companies from Turkey. On the other hand, Turkey's leather imports were recorded to be around $21 million during 2023. In February 2023, the highest amount of leather import shipments were recorded from Turkey responsible for over $4.8 million worth of leather imports.


Turkey import data shows that around 37% of Turkey's imports came from India during fiscal year 2023. Whereas, Italy was the second largest supplier of leather related items to Turkey contributing to over 23% share. Pakistan was the third biggest leather supplier having over 17% market share. The fastest growing destinations for Turkey's leather imports were Spain, China, France, Turkey, Tunisia, Ukraine and Romania. 


Beymen Group and GUCC Turkey Luxury Products Trade were responsible for the maximum amount of import shipments from Turkey. Turkey’s competition is from Italy which is the leading leather items market for exports. Whereas, the United States is the second major market for leather exports. On the other hand, China is the top importer of leather from the global market. Whereas, Italy remained the second biggest importer of leather items across the world.


Turkey's leather market has shown vast improvement. Experts are predicting the country’s leather exports to reach 2.8 billion euros by 2028. The Turkish government is taking various measures and investments to boost the domestic leather market.
