Malaysia, "World's 5th biggest aluminium exporter"
Malaysia is the world's leading aluminium exporter. Malaysia made record aluminium shipments during last year. According to the Malaysia import export data, over $7.8 billion worth of aluminium shipments were made during 2023. Malaysia's majority of the aluminium exports were mostly to India which accounted for over 54% of the country's total exports.
Whereas, Vietnam was the second biggest importer of Malaysian aluminium products accounting for 17% share. Indonesia was the third biggest aluminium importer from Malaysia having 15% share. Malaysia's aluminium exports showed positive growth among Philippines, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Ukraine, Turkey, Pakistan and Zimbabwe market.

India emerged as the biggest aluminium supplier to Malaysia contributing to over 85% imports. Nigeria was the second most favoured market for aluminium imports by Malaysia. Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Philippines, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Turkey were the fastest growing markets for Malaysia's aluminium imports.
Access world and CNA metals were among the top aluminium buyers from Malaysia. Hindalco Industries from India and Metal Recycling Industries from Nigeria were the top aluminium exporting companies to Malaysia. Malaysia is also a significant importer of scrap aluminium. Malaysia customs data shows that over $1.8 billion worth of scrap aluminium imports were recorded by Malaysia during 2023.
Over 65% of the Malaysian scrap aluminium imports came from the United States which is the world's biggest scrap aluminium exporter. There were some noticeable amounts of import shipments of scrap aluminium from Canada, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.
Apart from Aluminium, Malaysia is also a significant supplier of iron and steel. According to the Malaysia export data reports, the country's iron and steel exports were recorded to be around $7.8 billion during 2023.
The majority of Malaysia's iron and steel exports were among India, Indonesia and Philippines contributing to over 62% market share. The fastest growing markets for Malaysia's iron and steel exports were Vietnam, Bangladesh, Turkey, Uganda, Ghana, Pakistan and Cote D Ivoire.
Eastern Steel was the most renowned iron and steel supplier from Indonesia accounting for the maximum number of shipments in 2023. Alliance Steel, Stamcorp International and Posco International were the fastest growing iron and steel companies from Malaysia. Metals are the most prominent exports of Malaysia.
