New Zealand's Fruits Trade Market Overview
New Zealand’s kiwi fruits exports hit a record $2.6 billion in 2023. Japan was the leading market for New Zealand's exports of Kiwifruit responsible for 25% market share. China was the second leading buyer of Kiwi fruits from New Zealand with 20% market share. New Zealand's kiwifruit demand showed great demand from Taiwan, Korea, Australia, Hong Kong and the United States. The forecast shows that New Zealand’s kiwi exports might reach $3.5 billion by the end of 2025.
In terms of avocado exports, New Zealand's has earned $164 NZ dollars in 2023. The key markets for New Zealand's fruit exports were Australia, Hong Kong and Thailand. Whereas, Ecuador was the most prominent avocado supplier to New Zealand during last year. New Zealand's other popular fruit export was Apple. As per New Zealand export data, the country's overall apples exports were estimated to be $595 million during last year.
China and Vietnam were the two biggest buyers of fruits from New Zealand contributing to over 37% market share. The fastest growing markets for New Zealand's apples exports were the United States, Thailand, UK, UAE and Hong Kong. Whereas, New Zealand's overall apple imports came from Australia.
Whereas, the country’s cherry exports are estimated to be $59 million during 2023. Taiwan was the main export destination for New Zealand's cherry exports. In 2023, Taiwan imported around $37 million NZ dollars worth of cherries from New Zealand. Vietnam was the second leading importer of cherries from New Zealand with imports worth around $11 million NZ dollars. Whereas, the United States is the biggest supplier of cherries to New Zealand.
In terms of Blueberries exports, New Zealand's exports revenue was estimated to be $5 million NZ dollars in 2023. Australia, Vietnam and Taiwan were the top destinations for New Zealand's blueberries exports. Whereas, Chile and the United States were the top markets for the blueberries imports of New Zealand. Apart from blueberries, pumpkins are another major export item from New Zealand.
New Zealand is ranked among the top pumpkins exporters in the world. During 2023, New Zealand's pumpkins exports were nearly $70 million. Japan and South Korea were among the top importers of pumpkins from New Zealand with 40% share. Among the fastest growing markets for New Zealand's pumpkins exports were China and the Netherlands.
Zespri International, Enzafruit NZ International and New Zealand Apple were the top fruit suppliers from New Zealand in terms of maximum shipments. According to New Zealand import data, the country’s fruits imports in 2023 were recorded to be $158 million. Philippines, Australia and Ecuador were among the top destinations for the imports of fruits by New Zealand.
