Turkey's pistachio exports surge to $74 Mn in Q1 of 2024

Turkey is the 3rd biggest exporter of pistachios in the world. Turkey made record pistachio exports last year. According to Turkey import export data reports, Turkey's pistachios exports were estimated to be around $318 million during the financial year 2023. As compared to $257 million worth of pistachios exports in 2022, there was a notable increase in the pistachios exports from Turkey.

Turkey export data suggests that Italy, Germany and Iraq were the leading pistachios importers from Turkey. Italy recorded $56 million worth of Turkish pistachios imports last year followed by Germany ($47 million), and Iraq ($45 million). Although, there was a slight decline in the exports to Italy with a sharp increase in exports to Germany and Iraq.


The fastest growing markets for Turkish pistachios exports were Libya, Jordan, Syria, Israel, Iran and Kazakhstan. In 2023, the top pistachios exporting companies were GFT Group, Habip Pistachio, Enfal Peanut and Cankaya Pistachios. In recent years, Turkish pistachio exports have seen tremendous growth. 


Turkey customs data shows a notable amount of growth in pistachio exports in the first quarter of 2024. Around $74 million worth pistachios were exported this year. As compared to pistachio exports during the same period in 2023, there were $156 million more exports this year. In 2024, Turkey exported to over 90+ countries with Italy, Germany and Iraq as the biggest importers. 


In terms of import value, Germany was responsible for $12 million worth of pistachio exports followed by Germany (12 million) and Iraq ($9 million) during 2024. Georgia was the fastest growing market for Turkey's pistachios exports showing 74% increase this year. Also, there were notable shipments to Libya, Jordan, Syria, Israel, Iran and Kazakhstan. 


In terms of pistachios imports, Turkey imported around $194 million worth of pistachio during last year. According to Turkey import data reports, the United States, Iran, Syria and Greece were the prominent suppliers to Turkey during fiscal year 2023. Pistacchio, Firmenich and Baymar Kuruyem Bakl were the leading pistachios importing companies from Turkey responsible for higher number of import shipments last year.
