Brazil's rising poultry industry : Stats & Figures
In 2023, Brazil's chicken meat exports volume reached around 5 million tons. In the recent month of March 2024, Brazil has shipped nearly 1.1 million of chicken meat in exports with export figures around $2 billion. China was the leading market for Brazil's chicken meat exports as exports rose to 18%.
During FY 2023, China has imported nearly $1.5 billion worth of chicken from Brazil. Among the fastest growing markets for Brazil's chicken meat exports were Japan, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Seara Alimentos, Leon International, and C Vale-cooperativa are some of the leading edible meat exporting companies from Brazil.
Whereas, the overall poultry meat exports from Brazil were recorded to be $22 billion in 2023. As compared to fiscal year 2022, there was a decline of 8% in Brazil's meat exports. China represented 35% of Brazil's total meat exports with record $8 billion worth of meat imports during 2023. There was notable growth in Brazilian meat exports across the United Arab Emirates, Japan and Saudi Arabia.
Apart from Chicken meat, Brazil's bovine meat and pork exports have shown frequent growth. As per Brazil export data, bovine meat accounted for over 39% of Brazil's meat exports with a record value of $8.7 billion in 2023. On the other hand, Brazil's pork exports stood at $2.8 billion in the last fiscal year.
China was the top market for Brazil's bovine meat and poultry meat exports. Around 65% share of Brazil's bovine meat exports went to China. In 2023, China imported around $5.2 billion worth of bovine meat. Along with China, the USA, UAE and Egypt were other significant markets.
On the other hand, China had over 30% share of Brazil's pork exports with an estimated value of $871 million during 2023. Whereas, Philippines, Hong Kong and Chile were the top destinations for Brazil's pork exports. The top meat exporting firms from Brazil exports were JBS, Minerva Foods, Plena Alimentos and Agra Agroindustrial De respectively.
In terms of the dairy sector, Brazil's exports grew by 4.5%. These include eggs, honey and various edible animal products. The demand for Brazilian eggs drove more export revenue last year. Its exports reached $250 million in the fiscal year 2023. Whereas, other notable exports were honey ($85 million), milk, cream ($46 million), and cheese ($20 million).
The biggest market for Brazil's dairy products exports were mainly the United States, Mexico and Japan. Pluma Agroavicola, Globoaves, and Aviagen were the top dairy based products export companies from Brazil with commendable amounts of exports last year. As per Brazil import data, the country's dairy imports increased by 50% compared to previous year.
In 2023, Brazil's dairy imports were recorded to be $1.2 billion. The United States was the biggest supplier of dairy product exports with $84 million worth of exports last year. Mexico, Japan, Chile and Paraguay were the most favoured destinations by Brazil for dairy imports last year.
