Chile exported record $7.08 Bn worth of fruits in 2023

 Chile is among the leading fruit exporting countries in the world. Fruit items drive 25% of Chile's total exports. Chile's key fruits exports are cherries, grapes, apples, dates, and nuts. The United States, China and Europe have emerged as the leading markets for Chile's fruits.

Chile import export data shows record $7.08 billion worth of cherries exports during fiscal year 2023. Chilean cherries remained the most demanded fruits from Chile in the global market. It is derived from the fact that Chile exported over $2.5 billion worth of cherries last year.


China was the biggest market for Chile's cherry's exports , responsible for around 84% share of the country's total cherry exports. The Chilean government is planning to further boost its cherry exports to China amid rising demand.


Recent Chile export data suggest over $1.4 billion of fruits exports were made to China during FY 2024. There was over 30% increase in Chile’s exports to China in January 2024. Also, there was a notable amount of cherry export shipments to the United States and China.  Frugal, Rocofrut, and Agrocommerce were the leading cherry export companies from Chile with higher number of shipments last year.


Grapes were the second most fruits exported from Chile in 2023. Last year, Chile’s grapes exports crossed over $1 billion. There was a significant decline in Chile’s grapes exports in 2023 as compared to $1.1 billion during FY 2022. Around 40% of Chile’s grape exports went to the United States which was the leading importer of grapes from Chile.


Whereas, China (11%), Netherlands (5.5%) and the United Kingdom (4.3%) were other significant grapes importing countries globally.  In terms of apple shipments, Chile exported $553 million worth of apple export shipments during fiscal year 2023.  Colombia (14%), United States (9.8%) and Brazil (9%) were the top markets for Chile's apple exports. 


On the other hand, Chile's fruit imports went up by 2% in 2023. Chile import data reflects that over $334 million worth of fruits were imported by Chile last year. Ecuador was the leading fruits supplier to Chile with over 40% market share. In 2023, Ecuador exported around $135 million worth of fruits to Chile whereas, Peru exported around $120 million worth of fruits items to Chile. 


Chile has made some notable amount of fruits exports to the United States and Brazil. Chile's key fruits imports were bananas, dates, citrus fruits, apples, coconuts and melons. Bananas and dates accounted for 70% of Chile's overall fruit imports in 2023. Shipment wise, the leading Chile fruits import companies were Walmart Chile, Cencosud Retail, Carozzi and Comfrut.

  Sri Lanka is likely to import ethanol from India. Sri Lanka has shown immense interest in importing mixed petrol and diesel from India to support its domestic market.
