Spain's cosmetics & fragrances exports

Spain is ranked among the top 20 cosmetics and fragrances exporters in the world. Spain’s cosmetics and fragrances market is estimated to be around $14 billion. In 2023, Spain’s cosmetics and fragrances exports increased by 20%. According to Spain import export data reports, around $7.6 billion worth of cosmetics and fragrances exports were recorded during fiscal year 2023. 

The leading destination for Spain’s cosmetics items exports was France which is the world’s biggest cosmetics items supplier. In 2023, France imported over $872 million worth of cosmetics items from Spain representing 17% share of Spain’s cosmetics exports. Whereas, Germany was the second major destination for Spain’s cosmetics exports with worth over $690 million last year.


There was notable growth in Spain’s cosmetics & fragrances exports to the USA ($562 million), Portugal ($532 million), Italy ($463 million) and the United Kingdom ($418 million). Perfumes were the most exported items from Spain with worth over $3.14 billion last year. Perfumes covered over 40% share of Spain's overall cosmetics sector. Over 65% of Spanish perfumes went to France followed by the Netherlands and Italy. Antonio Puig, Inditex, and Perfumes Loewe were the top Spanish brands exporting this commodity.


Whereas per Spain export data, beauty and makeup items exports earning were over $1.8 billion in FY 2023. There was a formidable growth of 22% in Spain’s beauty items exports. The top destinations for Spain's beauty items exports were France, Portugal, Germany and Italy. There was a huge demand for beauty, make-up preparations, lip make-up, eye make-up, manicure, pedicure preparations and powders in these markets.


Isdin, Proteos Biotech, and Beiersdorf Consumer Products  were the leading Spanish export companies in the beauty/make-up preparations sector. In terms of hair care items, Spanish exports were $830 million in the past fiscal year. The leading destinations for Spanish hair care items were France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands. Productos Capilares Loreal, Lakme Cosmetics, and Erayba Cosmetics are the leading hair care export companies from Spain.



According to Spain customs data, other crucial cosmetics items exports were shaving items ($588 million), Essential oils ($160 million) and Dental care items ($125 million). Europe was the biggest market for Spain’s cosmetics exports including France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Spain’s cosmetics industry is expected to see 2x growth last year.


In terms of cosmetics imports, there was 12% growth during last fiscal year. As per Spain import data, the imports were $4.8 billion in FY 2023. France, Germany, Italy, Ireland and the Netherlands were the top markets for Spain's cosmetics imports. Productos Capilares Loreal, Antonio Puig and Isdin were the leading companies from Spain.  Globally, the top competitors for Spain's cosmetics industry are France, South Korea, United States and Japan.
