Turkey's carpets & rugs exports were $494 Mn last year

Turkey is among the leading exporter of carpets and rugs globally. It is among the most exported commodities from Turkey. According to Turkey import export data reports, the overall carpets and its textile floor coverings exports are worth around $2.6 billion during fiscal year 2023. 

The United States was responsible for 28% market share of Turkey's overall carpet exports. Among the leading markets for Turkey's carpet exports were Saudi Arabia, Iraq, United Kingdom, Germany and the United Arab Emirates. Milat Carpet Industry, Empera, ESMA, and Valentis Home were the Turkish carpets export companies with a notable amount of shipments last year. 


Among which Turkey’s knitted carpets exports were estimated to be $55 million in the last fiscal year. The United States was the leading destination for Turkey's carpets exports. The USA was responsible for around 50% of Turkey's overall knitted carpets exports. Along with the United States, Japan, Czech Republic, Italy and the United Kingdom were other significant markets for Turkish carpets exports.


As per Turkey export data, the country’s hand woven rugs exports hit a record $2 billion in 2023. There was a 3% decline in Turkey's carpets exports as compared to fiscal year 2022. Over 30% of Turkish carpets exports went to the United States followed by Saudi Arabia (11%), Germany (5.5%), and Iraq (4.5%) respectively.


Textile is a major manufacturing sector in Turkey. Textiles contribute largely to Turkey's textiles exports. Special woven fabrics were other potential export items from Turkey with exports over $400 million during FY 2023. Although, there was a decline of 9% compared to 2022. Belarus was the top destination for Turkey's textiles exports with worth around $44 million.


Among the fastest growing markets for Turkey's special woven fabrics were Uzbekistan, United States and the United Kingdom. During this period, the leading Turkish textiles export companies were Kets Teks Turism Tica, Rimiteks, and Epengle Textile. In terms of knitted and crocheted fabrics, Turkey's exports were recorded to be $1.9 billion in the last fiscal year. Whereas, not knitted and crocheted fabrics exports from Turkey were around $8 billion for FY 2023. Spain, Germany and the Netherlands were among the leading markets for Turkey’s knitted and not knitted fabrics.



Whereas, Turkey’s carpets and rugs imports were $82 million in FY 2023. As per Turkey import data, the Netherlands and China were the leading markets for carpets imports by Turkey. During fiscal year 2023, the Netherlands has imported $18 million worth of carpets from these two markets. Also, there was a surge in Turkey's carpet imports from India, Belgium, Serbia and Pakistan.
