Turkey's construction markets trade analysis

Turkey is a well known market for building materials exports. Turkey is among the top 10 exporter of building materials. These include cement, stones, rebars, steel, aluminium wires, etc. According to Turkey import export data, the overall construction materials exports from Turkey stood at around $2 billion during last fiscal year.  There was a decline of 6.4% compared to the previous year. The United States was the biggest importer of construction materials from Turkey.

The United States accounted for 20% of Turkey's construction materials exports. Whereas, Iraq (8%), Israel (6.5%), Saudi Arabia (6%) and France (4.5%).  Turkey's top construction materials exports include building stones, cement, POP articles, rock stones, grind stones, etc. Building stones represent 60% of Turkey's total building materials exports. According to Turkey export data, $1.2 billion worth of building stones were exported from Turkey in 2023.


The United States and Saudi Arabia were the top importers of building stones items from Turkey with over 40% market share. The fastest growing markets for Turkish building stones exports were Iraq, Israel, France and the United Arab Emirates. Whereas, cement was the second most exported construction material export from Turkey. 


Around $145 million worth of cement was exported from Turkey in 2023. The United States accounted for 35% of Turkey's cement exports. Israel was the second leading importer of cement with 15% market share. Georgia, Greece, and Iraq were the fastest growing markets for Turkey's cement exports. Inter Abrasive, Dowaksa, Ak-Pa Tekstil and Bankosan Automotive were the top Turkish construction materials export companies from Turkey.


Whereas, bars and rods exports from Turkey were $451 million in 2023. Israel was the main destination for Turkey's bars and rods exports. There was a surge in exports to Romania, Australia, Spain and Bulgaria. İÇDAŞ, İsdemir, and Kalibre Çelik are some of the top rebar export companies from Turkey. 



On the other hand, Turkish construction materials  dropped to 1.2%. According to Turkey import data, over $628 million worth of construction materials imports were recorded in the past fiscal year. Over 17% of Turkey's construction materials imports were from China. Along with China, Turkey's construction materials imports from Germany, United States, Italy, France and India increased significantly.  


On the other hand, aluminium wire exports from Turkey were estimated to be $55 million during fiscal year 2023. Romania was the biggest importer of aluminium wire with worth around 12 million dollars. The fastest growing markets for Turkish aluminium wire exports were Bulgaria, Greece, Algeria and North Macedonia.


Pferd Aşindirici Takimlar, Saertex Turkey, Dowaksa, and Topkapi Endüstri were other construction materials importing companies from Turkey. Currently, Vietnam, Germany, Egypt and Canada are the world's major destinations for construction materials exports. Through accurate insights over the construction market, businesses can mitigate financial risk, set business goals and enhance their production.
