UK's beverages & spirits exports rose to $10.8 Bn in 2023
The United Kingdom is the world’s 4th leading exporter of beverages and spirits. The United Kingdom is known for producing some of the finest alcoholic beverages and spirits in the world. During fiscal year 2023, UK’s beverages exports saw rapid growth. According to UK import export data, the country’s overall beverages exports stood at around $10.8 billion in the last year. These include wines, beers, mineral water, soda, vermouth, etc.
Alcoholic spirits exports from the UK were record $8.5 billion in 2023. Export value wise, other major beverages exports from the UK were mineral waters ($705 million), grape wine ($621 million), beer ($574 million) and vermouth ($475 million). In 2023, the United States accounted for 17% of the UK's overall beverages exports. Around $2 billion worth of beverages were exported to the United States by the UK.
Also, there was fastest growth recorded in terms of beverages exports to France, Singapore, Netherlands and Germany. Pernod Ricard, Diageo Brands, Interlog Group and Dewars Group were among the leading alcoholic beverages export companies from the UK. Whereas, the UK's beverages imports went up by 2% this year.
As per UK import data, the country's beverages imports were around $10.6 billion during fiscal year 2023. France and Italy were the two leading beverage suppliers to the UK with 38% share of imports. France exported around $2.5 billion worth of beverages to the UK followed by Italy ($1.5 billion), USA ($928 million) and the Netherlands ($642 million). Zambezi Foods, Proximo Spirits, Diageo Scotland and Alcotra were the prominent importers of beverages from the United Kingdom.
Chocolates, cheese and cereals were other significant food exports from the UK. As per UK export data, the overall chocolate exports made were recorded to be $1 billion during FY 2023. The UK's major chocolate export destinations were Ireland ($245 mn), Netherlands ($182 million), Poland ($60 million), and Saudi Arabia ($51 million).
On the other hand, the UK’s cheese exports grew by 5% and reached a record $1 billion during FY 2023. France was the leading destination for UK's cheese exports as its imports were $105 million. Also, there were notable cheese export shipments from the UK among the United States, Belgium and the Netherlands.
In terms of breakfast cereals, the UK has recorded around $95 million worth of cereals last year. Saudi Arabia, Netherlands and France were the top importers of breakfast cereals from the UK. These were mainly oats, cornflakes, cereal grains, etc. Morning Foods, Selva Organic Foods UK, Wyke Farms, Fayrefield Foods and Magna are some of the top UK brands exporting these items.
