Brazil's foods and beverages market analysis FY 2023
Food and beverages are the significant contributors to Brazil's exports. Brazil is the world's biggest exporter of orange juice, soybeans, sugar, poultry, corn, coffee and meat. Brazil represents 75% share of Brazil's overall orange juice exports. Other major food exports include beer, wine, bakery, chocolates, diary products, meat, dried fruits etc.
According to Brazil import export data, sugar and its confectionery items were the most exported items from Brazil. In 2023, Brazil exported around $16 billion worth of sugar and its confectionery items. These were mainly cane or beet sugars. China was the top destination for Brazil’s cane sugar exports representing 11% market share worth $1.6 billion last year.
India, Algeria, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia were among the fastest growing markets for Brazil's cane sugar exports. Wilmar Sugar, Eldorado Brasil, Alvean Sugar and Raizen Trading are the leading sugar export companies from Brazil. Whereas, Edible fruits and vegetables preparations exports from Brazil were recorded to be $2.8 billion during fiscal year 2023.
As per Brazil export data reports, the exports of edible fruits and vegetables preparations were mostly to the United States having 30% market share. The United States imported over $980 million worth of edible fruits and vegetables from Brazil followed by Belgium ($760 Million), Netherlands ($528 Million), China ($125 Million), and Japan ($100 Million).
Minerva Foods, Conservas Oderich, and Bonduelle were the major Brazil's edible fruits and vegetables preparations export companies. Meat preparations were other crucial exports of Brazil.For the financial year 2023, Brazil's meat preparations items exports reached $1.3 billion. There was a decline of 10% compared to FY 2022.
The United States was the top importer of meat preparations from Brazil with imports worth $386 million last year. There was a rise in the meat preparations export shipments to the United Kingdom, Netherlands and Angola. Brazil’s beverages exports saw a decline of 5% in 2023. The beverages exports of Brazil were estimated to be $1.8 billion last year.
Strong alcoholic beverages exports of Brazil were recorded to be $1.5 billion contributing to over 85% market share. Malt beer was the second most exported beverage from Brazil with worth over $155 million in 2023. Casa Di Conti, Cervejarias Kaiser Brasil and Fante Beverage Industry are the top beverage export companies from Brazil.
Cocoa and cereals are other notable exports of Brazil across this sector. Brazil's cereals exports were recorded to be $475 million whereas cocoa exports were around $374 million in 2023. Argentina, USA, Chile and Uruguay are the leading destinations for Brazil's cereals and cocoa exports. The top Brazilian export companies in this segment are Garoto, Pepsico Do Brasil and Ferrero Do Brasil.
Prepared Animal Fodder accounted for the record $16 billion exports during fiscal year 2023. Indonesia and Thailand were the leading destinations for Brazil’s prepared animal fodder exports representing 27% market share. Germany, Netherlands and Poland were the fastest growing markets for animal feed exports of Brazil. Seara Meats, Grainways, and COFCO International were among the top animal feed export companies from Brazil.
