Netherlands, "India's 3rd biggest destinations for exports"
Over the past few years, the Netherlands has emerged as an important trading partner of India. The bilateral trade between the two countries soared in the last two years. Netherlands is India’s 11th largest trading partner and biggest importer across the European continent. According to India customs data, the total trade between the two countries stood at around $27 billion during the last fiscal year with a positive trade balance of 17 billion dollars.
The Netherlands import data shows that over $22 billion worth of items were imported from India during the last fiscal year. According to India export data, there was a 6% rise in the exports to the Netherlands during FY 2023. The Netherlands was the third biggest destination for India’s exports. Earlier in 2021, the Netherlands was the fifth major importer of Indian goods.
Aluminium and its articles were the most imported item by the Netherlands from India. Iron, Steel, Crude Petroleum, Woven fabrics, Cermet metals articles were other significant imports by the Netherlands in 2023. As per India import export data of March 2024, petroleum products, telecom instruments, chemicals and electronics instruments were the key exports of India to the Netherlands. Whereas, floating structures, vegetable oils and electronic components were the significant gainers in terms of India’s exports to the Netherlands.
ODDO BHF, Alleima Emea and CJ Clark International were among the leading import companies from the Netherlands with a higher amount of shipments last year. Viraj Profiles, Hindalco and JSW Steel were among the leading export companies from India with higher number of shipments to the Netherlands. Whereas per India import data, the Netherlands exported over $4.9 billion dollars of items to India in the financial year 2023.
India’s key imports from the Netherlands were Light vessels, floating cranes, Aluminium waste, scrap, Ferrous waste scrap, Pharmaceuticals, Optical instruments, Fertilizers, Medical instruments, etc. Refined petroleum was the main import of India from the Netherlands with 21% market share. DEME Group, Philips Medical Systems, Teijin Aramid and Jansen Recycling Group were among the leading Netherlands export companies responsible for higher shipping volumes to India.
In terms of overall Netherlands imports, the total value was estimated to be $644 in the financial year 2023. Compared to FY 2022, the Netherlands imports declined by 6%. Refined petroleum, Integrated circuits, Electrical equipment, Pharmaceuticals, Petroleum oils, Medical Instruments, Orthopaedic Appliances, Vaccines and Computer peripherals were the top imports of the Netherlands for the financial year 2023.
The most favoured destinations by the Netherlands for imports were mainly Germany, Belgium, France, United Kingdom and the United States. As per the Netherlands import export data, Gunvor, Gasterra, Glencore Energy and Scaw Metals were among the major import companies from the Netherlands in terms of shipments.
