Russia's Textiles & Footwear Trade Analysis FY 2023
Well, Russia’s textiles exports are not as sound as crude oil, gas, and fertilizers exports. Knitted Fabrics were the most exported items from Russia. During the financial year 2023, Russia’s knitted fabrics exports stood at around $598 million as per Russia import export data. Moldova was the leading destination for Russian knitted fabrics items representing around 47% market share.
Uzbekistan was the second leading destination for Russian knitted fabrics exports with 27% market share. The fastest growing markets for Russia's knitted fabrics exports are Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Lithuania. Whereas, non-knitted or crocheted articles were the second most exported commodity from Russia.
According to Russia customs data reports, over 136 million dollars worth of non-knitted or crocheted articles were exported from Russia in the fiscal year 2023. Russia's majority of the knitted and non-knitted textiles articles exports were made to Namibia and Spain respectively. Namibia and Spain were responsible for 18% and 16% market share respectively.
Poland, Italy, France and Croatia were among the fastest growing markets for Russian textiles articles exports. Fabrika Sharm and Diromm are the top Russian export companies for knitted and non-knitted fabrics. Worn clothing articles exports from Russia surged in FY 2023. Russia export data shows that around $840 million worth of worn clothing articles exports were recorded in the last fiscal year.
France was the biggest destination for Russia’s worn clothing articles exports having over 12% market share. Russia's worn clothing articles exports were Germany, Sweden, Finland and Uzbekistan. TDL Textiles, Ecovita, and NPO Rizur were the top Russia’s worn clothing articles export companies with higher number of shipments last year.
Russia’s other major textiles exports include knitted or crocheted articles ($62 million), silk ($22 thousand), wool ($5.3 million), cotton ($12.45 million), paper yarn ($29 million), man made filaments ($55 million), man made staple fibres ($16.2 million), woven fabrics ($71 million), carpets ($7.8 million), special woven fabrics ($2 million) and industrial textiles articles ($24 million).
In terms of footwear items exports, Russian revenue declined from $253 million to $48 million in 2023. Russia’s footwear exports were highly impacted by the Russia-Ukraine war. The major markets for Russian footwear exports were France ($7.5 million) and Spain ($5.8 million). Among the fastest growing markets for Russia’s footwear exports were mainly Ukraine, United States, United Arab Emirates and Mongolia.
Whereas per Russia import data, Russia’s footwear imports were recorded to be $3.23 billion in the fiscal year 2023. China was the major leading footwear importer from Russia representing 50% of Russia’s footwear imports. Italy, Poland, Turkey, Austria and Germany were the major markets for footwear imports by Russia. Sportmaster, Adidas, Lana Import and Reima are the top footwear companies from Russia.
The Russian textile market has a huge potential. Experts sees, Russian home textile market to reach $4.5 billion in 2024 with 2% growth. Whereas, the footwear market could reach $6.5 billion by the end of this year.
