Turkey's fruits & vegetable exports hit record $212 Mn in April
Turkey is among the leading exporters of fruits and vegetables globally. Turkey is the biggest exporter of hazelnuts and fids. As per Turkey customs data, the overall fruits and vegetables exports from Turkey hit a record $212 million in April 2024. Experts predict Turkey's fruit market to reach 2.6 billion euros in 2024 with 9% expected annual growth rate.
In the fiscal year 2023, Turkey's fruits and vegetables exports sales bombed. According to Turkey import export data, the country's fruits exports went up by 8.5% last year. Turkey's fruits exports were recorded to be $5.4 billion in FY 2023. Turkey's key fruits exports includes citrus fruits, grapes, apricots, dates, figs, apples and melons.
Russia was the biggest importer of fruits from Turkey with nearly billion dollars of fruit imports from Turkey. Export share wise, Germany (12%), Italy (8%), Iraq (7%), and the United Kingdom (4%) were the major markets for Turkish fruits exports. Ferrero Hazelnut Company, Hatipoglu Tarim, TekAsya Tarim and Perla fruits are some of the prominent fruit export companies from Turkey.
Citrus fruits were the most exported fruits items from Turkey. Turkey exported nearly $1.2 billion worth of edible fruits in 2023. Russia was the biggest importer of citrus fruits from Turkey representing around 37% share of Turkish citrus fruits exports. Iraq, Ukraine, Poland and Romania were other significant markets for Turkey's citrus fruits exports. These were mainly lemons ($357 million), oranges ($112 million), and grapes ($67 million).
Grapes were the second most exported fruits item from Turkey worth $665 million in 2023. The United Kingdom, Russia and the Netherlands were among the leading grapes importing countries from Turkey. Ozgur Foods, Tuğrul Tarım and Pagmat Pamuk are the major grape export companies from Turkey.
On the other hand, Turkey's vegetable exports increased by 17% and stood at around $2.4 billion during fiscal year 2023. Turkey's key vegetable exports include dried leguminous vegetables, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, carrots, cabbages, etc. Iraq was the top market for Turkey's vegetable exports with 18% market share. Germany, Romania, Algeria, Russia and Ukraine were the major destinations for Turkey's vegetable exports .
Turkey export data shows dried legumes as the top vegetable exports of the country worth $1.1 billion in fiscal year 2023. Compared to the previous year, there was a 6.6% rise in dried legumes exports of Turkey. Iraq was responsible for 35% share of Turkey's dried legumes exports. Algeria, Sudan, Germany, Egypt, and Italy were the top markets for Turkey's dried legumes exports. Arbel Pulses Groups, Tat Bakliyat and Başhan Agro Gıda are the leading pulses export companies from Turkey.
Tomatoes were the second most exported item from Turkey with a 42% rise in exports. In the financial year 2023, Turkey exported over $535 million worth of tomatoes. Romania, Ukraine, Poland and Germany were the leading destinations for Turkey's tomato exports. Turkey’s top tomato export companies were Astera Agricultural Products, Vision Fruit and Onderexport were the prominent companies from Turkey responsible for higher amounts of tomato export shipments.
According to Turkey import data, the country’s overall fruits and vegetables imports during fiscal year 2023 were estimated to be $2.4 billion. The most favoured destinations for Turkey’s fruits and vegetables imports were Germany, Russia, Canada, Egypt, Syria and Australia.
