Argentina's Chemical Industry Analysis : Stats & Figures

 Argentinian exports revenues are highly dependent on chemicals industry. Chemical sector nearly accounts for 12% of Argentina's total manufacturing revenues. The majority of the Argentina  chemical compounds are used in paints, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and drugs. According to Argentina import export data, the overall inorganic chemicals exports were $1.13 billion during fiscal year 2023. The carbonated compounds comprise 45% of Argentina's overall inorganic chemicals.

Chlorides, boric acids, and radioactive chemicals were other prominent exports of Argentina. China was the top market for Argentina's inorganic chemicals exports contributing to over 40% market. Other significant markets for Argentina's inorganic chemicals exports were Japan, USA, Brazil and Chile.


In terms of organic chemicals, Argentina’s total exports earnings were estimated to be $518 million in 2023. Quaternary ammonium salts and hydroxides were the most exported organic chemicals from Argentina having 21% market share. Brazil was the leading market for Argentina's organic chemicals exports with 22% market share.


According to Brazil import data, the imports of organic chemicals from Argentina were estimated to be $116 million in 2023. Germany was the second major importer of Argentina organic chemicals with 15% share of imports. Germany's total  organic chemicals imports were $81 million during last year.


The other prominent markets for Argentina's chemicals exports were Chile, United States, Netherlands and Spain. Instituto Massone was the leading organic chemicals export company from Argentina with record shipments in 2023. In the pharmaceutical sector, Argentina's total earnings were $894 million in the last financial year. 


Uruguay and Brazil were the two major markets for Argentina's pharmaceutical exports. As per Argentina export data, Uruguay imported over $102 million worth of pharma products from Argentina. Whereas, Brazil's pharmaceutical imports from Argentina were estimated to be $91 million in 2023. The fastest growing markets for Argentina's pharmaceutical exports were France, Paraguay, Ecuador and Mexico. Biosidus, Sinergium Biotech and Pharmadn are some of the prominent pharma companies from Argentina with record exports last year.


On the other hand, Argentina's fertilizers exports were estimated to be $49 million in FY 2023. Paraguay was the leading market for Argentina's fertilizers exports with 62% market share. Whereas, other major markets for Argentina's fertilizers exports were Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and Bolivia. In terms of dyes and paints, Argentina’s exports earnings during FY 2023 were recorded to be $148 million.


China and Uruguay were the top destinations for Argentina's paint exports, having worth over $35 million in the past fiscal year. Among the fastest growing markets for Argentina's paint and dyes exports were Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Italy. Some of the leading paint export companies from Argentina were Unitan Saica, Akzo Nobel and Hempel Coatings.


Apart from these, plastics were the major contributors in Argentina’s chemical exports representing  over 28% market share. Argentina customs data shows over $1.22 billion worth of plastics exports were recorded during FY 2023. Brazil was the leading plastic importer from Argentina having 37% share of imports last year. 


Brazil's plastics imports from Argentina were recorded to be $460 million. Also, there was a rise in Argentina's plastics exports to Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, United States and Bolivia. YPF Sociedad Anonima, Dak Americas, and Rovafarm were the leading plastics export companies from Argentina. On the other hand, Argentina import data shows that organic chemicals imports are worth $3.4 billion in the fiscal year 2023.


Argentina chemical companies can increase their sales through global import export data provider.
