Turkish Export to Africa hit record $21B in FY22

 Tukey has been the crucial trading partner of Africa. Over the years, the exports from Turkey to Africa have seen an upward trend. According to the Turkey import export data record, the Turkish exports hit a record 21 billion dollars to Africa in the financial year 2022.

As compared to the last year Turkey customs data, there was around 12% increase in the exports from Turkey to Africa. Egypt was the leading importer of Turkish goods with imports worth around 4 billion US Dollars. Other major contributors to the Turkish exports were Morocco, Libya, Algeria and South Africa.


As per Turkey export data, the top product exports were textiles, machinery, ceramics, marbles, cosmetics, agriculture goods, electrical equipment and food processing units.


Top 5 African countries by Turkish Exports


Egypt


Exports to Egypt increased by 30% in the financial year 2022. Turkish exports to Egypt were around 4 billion us dollars. The major imports by Turkey were cars, coke, jewellery and textiles. On the other hand, Turkey's top imports from Egypt were alcohols, polymers and petroleum gas.


Morocco


In 2022, Morocco was the second largest importer of Turkey. For the financial year 2022, the Turkish exports to Morocco were around 3 billion us dollars. The top product exports were around iron articles, space crafts, aircrafts and cars etc. 


While our Turkey import data suggests that the exports from Morocco were around 1.5 billion dollars. Calcium phosphates, phosphoric acid and motor cars were the major imports by Turkey from Morocco in the financial year 2022.


 Libya


For the financial year 2022, Libya was the third largest exporter of goods to Turkey. Exports from Turkey accounted for 2.5 billion US dollars. There was around a 65% increase in exports from Turkey to Libya in 2022. Gold, Scrap Iron, Copper, Plastics, Animals and Vegetable Oils were the major product imports by Libya from Turkey.  On the other hand, Turkish imports from Libya were 2.8 billion US dollars. The major import items were jewellery, furniture and woven handicrafts. 


Algeria


Algeria was the fourth largest importer of Turkish products in 2022. The total exports from Turkey to Algeria was around 1.9 billion dollars. Soybean oil, Oilseeds, Motor vehicles, accessories and condensed milk were the top product exports by Turkey to Algeria. While imports from Algeria accounted for 1.2 billion dollars in the financial year 2022. The major import items are petroleum products, iron ore and ammonia.


South Africa


For the financial year 2022, South Africa stands fifth in the top Turkish exporters list with over 1.6 billion dollars imports from Turkey. The top exports from Turkey to South Africa were Gold, Refined Petroleum, Toiletries, Vehicles, Tractors, Fabric and Washing Machines. 


While as per the import export data, South Africa exports to Turkey were estimated around 1 billion US dollars. Iron ore, gold, and centrifuges are the top imports done by Turkey from South Africa. Other major destinations for Turkish exports were Nigeria, Kenya, Tunisia, Rwanda, Senegal and Ethiopia.
