US fig imports up by 13% in April
Over the years, USA's fig imports have increased significantly. The United States is the 4th largest figs importer in the world. According to the US import data, the United States figs imports had seen a 13% rise during April 2023. Earlier in March 2023, there was a 27% rise in figs imports by the USA.
As per US customs data reports, around 6 million dollars worth figs were imported in April 2023. The top figs suppliers to the United States during this period were Turkey responsible for over 84% of the total USA's figs imports. While other major markets for US figs imports were Mexico and China.
The United States is a significant exporter of figs. As per US export data, around 11 million dollars worth figs were exported by the US during FY 2021. In terms of exports value, Turkey's figs exports to the US was estimated around 4.5 million dollars during April 2023. Mexico held the second position in terms of figs exports to the US with over 1 million dollars worth along with 16% share of total imports. According to US import export data, Chile was the third largest figs exporter to the USA with over 6.5% share of total US imports.
Global market trends, Turkey held the top position as the leading fig exporter with over 742 million dollars worth exports during the fiscal year 2021. There was around 15% increase in Turkey's figs exports. The other major figs exporters worldwide were Afghanistan, Austria, Germany and Spain. Afghanistan is the second largest figs exporter with exports worth around 35 million dollars.
In terms of imports, India is the leading figs importer globally. As per India import data, India's figs imports were around 163 million dollars during the financial year 2021. Whereas, Germany, France, the United States, Austria and the United Kingdom.
Dried fruits are the major imports and exports of the United States. The USA is the 2nd largest importer and 3rd largest exporter of dried fruits in the world. The USA's exports of dry fruits were estimated around 254 million dollars during the fiscal year 2022. Whereas, the imports of dry fruits from the US were recorded to be 318 million dollars in 2022.
Recently, in March 2023, dry fruits exports from the US accounted for over 19 million dollars while imports were estimated to be 28 million dollars. Canada, Japan, Mexico and China are the top destinations for USA's exports. On the other hand, imports were mostly from Turkey, Egypt, China, Chile and Serbia. Experts predict that the USA's dry fruits market could expand up to 15 billion dollars by 2027.
