Russia made record car imports from Kyrgyzstan

The latest Russia import export data shows that over 892,356 passenger cars were exported to Russia during the fiscal year 2023. Compared to the previous year, Russia's car imports from Kyrgyzstan were 2.6 times more than the previous year. Apart from Kyrgyzstan, Russia's majority of the car imports came from China which contributed to over 80% of Russia's overall car imports. 


China export data shows that the maximum amount of car shipments came from the Chery brand with over 22% market share. OMODA, Changan, Geely, and Exeed are among some of the top prominent Chinese car brands with the majority of the exports to Russia. 


Kyrgyzstan's share in Russia's car imports was around 5.5%. There were some noticeable amounts of car imports from Kazakhstan (7%), Belarus (2.2%), Armenia (1.5%) and the United Arab Emirates (1%). Also, Kyrgyzstan has a major share in Russia’s used car imports which is estimated to be around 4.4% this year.


Whereas, Japan was the top used car supplier to Russia in 2023 covering over Russia’s 50% used cars imports. The global import export data report shows that Armenia, South Korea, Belarus and Germany were the top used car suppliers to Russia. Russia has shown its immense interest in the imports of Toyota cars (25%). Honda, Kia, Nissan, BMW and Hyundai were the other major trusted brands by Russia.


According to the Russia import export data reports, around $2.3 billion worth of exports were made to Kyrgyzstan. Russia's top exports to Kyrgyzstan were mostly petroleum products, iron bars, wheat grains, chocolate, seed oils, sawn wood and medicaments. Russia's key exports to Kyrgyzstan include emergency vehicles, textiles and agricultural goods. These exports will further prosper as both nations are working cooperatively.
