Pakistan's rice exports hit over $347 million in November

Rice is one of the most imported items in the global market. Pakistan is also a significant exporter of rice. It ranks 4th on the list of top rice exporters with over 3.8 MMT tonnes exports yearly. According to the Pakistan export data, the country exported over $347 million during November. Whereas, during this financial year, the overall rice exports from Pakistan were recorded to be $2.4 billion.

Over 30K rice exports shipments were made by Pakistan during this fiscal year. These include basmati rice ($779 M), semi-wholly milled rice ($731 M), parboiled rice ($590 M), husked rice ($315 M) and broken rice ($187 M). Pakistan's rice exports have seen strong demand across Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Indonesia and Afghanistan. 


Malaysia was responsible for $175 million worth of rice export shipments. Whereas, the UAE, Kenya and Indonesia were responsible for $167 million, $158 million and $157 million respectively. So far, the fastest growing markets for rice exports were the United Kingdom, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Italy and Tanzania.


For the financial year 2023, Garibsons was the leading rice export company from Pakistan accounting for the maximum number of rice export shipments. Pakistan import export data shows that over $154 million worth of rice export shipments were made by Garibsons company. Meskay & Femtee Trading, Asif Rice Mills, Hassan Ali Rice Export and Staple Foods are the most renowned rice export companies from Pakistan.


Basmati rice was the most demanded commodity from Pakistan. Saudi Arabia was the top importer of basmati rice from Pakistan responsible for $332 million during this year. Whereas, the United Arab Emirates, United States, Italy, Oman and Yemen were the top markets for Pakistan’s basmati rice exports. Matco Foods and Waqar Rice Mills are the top exporter of basmati rice from Pakistan with maximum number of shipments. 


According to the Pakistan import data, around $154 million  worth of rice were imported by Pakistan during the financial year 2023. China was the top rice supplier contributing to over 75% share of Pakistan's rice imports. Indonesia, India, Japan, United Arab Emirates and Thailand were the top rice exporters to Pakistan. Guard Rice accounted for 30% rice import share of Pakistan with worth around $46 million during this year.  


Pakistan exports look promising this year. Till now, Pakistan exports have reached $27 billion dollars with key exports like rice, textiles, meat,  fruits, live animals, seafood, etc. The United States, UAE and China have made a significant amount of imports from Pakistan contributing to over 32% share.
