UK's soybeans imports hit record 895MMT during 2023

 

The United Kingdom is the 17th biggest importer of soybean meal across the global market. According to the UK import export data reports, around $577 million worth of soybean meal were imported during fiscal year 2023. Over 895 MMT of soybean meal import shipments were made during last financial year. As compared to $717 million in the previous year, there was a sharp decline in the soybean imports by the United Kingdom. 

The UK's majority of the soybean meal imports came from Argentina which is the leading soybean meal supplier in the world. The Netherlands was the second leading soybean meal exporter to the United Kingdom followed by Paraguay, United States and Brazil. Brazil and Canada were the most favoured destinations for UK's soybean meal imports.

UK import data reflects that around $1.8 billion worth of products were imported by the UK from Argentina during last fiscal year. Oleaginosa Moreno Hnos, Aceitera General Deheza, and Spirax Sarco were the top UK import export companies with maximum number of shipments during last year.

As per UK export data reports, the overall soybean meal exports of the country were estimated to be around $88 million in 2023. Ireland was the top oilseed importer from the UK accounting for the 90% share of the country's overall soybean exports. Argentina’s top export companies were Europa Crown, Stokes Sauces and Yorkshire Crisps responsible for the maximum amount of oilseed shipments.

 

The UK's major vegetable imports from Argentina were pumpkins, dried chickpeas, sweet potatoes, dried leguminous vegetables, guar gum, beans. Whereas, apple, lemon, cherries, citrus fruits, kiwi fruits, and mandarins were the top fruits imports made by the United Kingdom from Argentina during last fiscal year. 

In terms of UK's fresh fruits and vegetables overall imports, Spain has the maximum amount of share contributed to around 33% market share. Alongside Spain, Netherlands, Colombia, Costa Rica, South Africa, Germany, Morocco, Brazil and France were among the potential suppliers to the United Kingdom.  

UK customs data shows that the country's fruits and vegetables exports reached over $32 billion during the fiscal year 2023. The UK fresh fruits exports were avocados, dates, melons, walnuts, blueberries, mangoes, apples, bananas. Whereas, peas, fresh beans, asparagus, lentils, dried onions, garlic, tomato were the top vegetable exports made by the UK in the last fiscal year.
