India's fruits & vegetables exports 2023
Agriculture is the major export industry of India. Almost 70% of the country’s population is immersed in the Agriculture sector. During fiscal year 2023, the country’s fruits and vegetables exports saw rapid growth. According to India import export data reports, the country’s fruits exports were estimated to be around $3.2 billion in 2023. Whereas, India registered $ 1.31 billion worth of vegetable exports last year.
Among India’s major fruits exports were bananas, raisins, mango pulp, cashew kernel, watermelons, guavas, mangoes, pomegranates and coconuts. Fresh banana plantains were the most exported fruit items from India. As per India export data, over $ 1 billion worth of fresh bananas were exported from India. The United Arab Emirates accounted for nearly 48% of the country’s overall banana exports.
Apart from the UAE, Uzbekistan, Oman, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Qatar were the most prominent markets for India's banana exports. Raisins were the second most exported fruit item from India with exports over $576 million during last year. Vietnam was the biggest buyer of raisins from India responsible for 40% of India's total raisins exports. Among the fastest growing markets were Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Russia and Malaysia.
India is the biggest mango exporter in the world. It was the third biggest export of the country. India customs data shows that over $364 million worth of mango pulp was exported by India in 2023. The Netherlands was the biggest importer accounting for 60% of the country's overall mango pulp exports. Also, there was a notable amount of mango pulp export shipments to Japan, Saudi Arabia and Spain.
In terms of market share, Cashew kernel (6.82%), Water Melons (5.46%), Guavas, Mangoes (5.33%), Pomegranates (2.83%), Coconuts (2.55%), and Tamarind (1.82%) were among the most profitable fruits exports of India during last year. The United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Netherlands and Saudi Arabia were responsible for the maximum fruits import shipments from India.
Exotic Fruits, Keventer Agro and Vimal Agro Products were the fastest growing export companies from India. On the other hand, the country’s most prominent vegetable exports were Onions, Dried legumes, Chickpeas, Desi chana, Vigna mungo, Cow peas, Green chilly, Tomatoes and Sweet Corn. Onions were the most exported vegetable item from India responsible for $557 million worth of exports during last year. Malaysia and Indonesia were among the top markets for India’s onions exports responsible for 41% and 26% share respectively.
Whereas, India’s dried legumes exports stood at $349 million in 2023. The Netherlands, United States and China were among the biggest legumes importers from India with 41%, 26% and 10% share respectively. There was a formidable amount of growth recorded for Green Chilly ($273 Million), Tomatoes ($160 Million) and Sweet Corn ($131 Million) exports from India.
In terms of overall vegetables exports, Malaysia, Netherlands and Sri Lanka were the most prominent markets for India's vegetables exports during last year. Among the fastest growing Indian export companies were Kogta Import Export, Arpit Agro Industries and Agro India Corporation. Whereas, India import data shows over $6 billion worth of fruits and vegetables imports recorded by India during last year.
