Kazakhstan's fruits & berries imports dipped slightly in 2023

Kazakhstan’s fruits and berries imports dipped slightly in 2023 whereas the exports of these items grew this year. As per Kazakhstan import data, the berries imports of Kazakhstan stood at around $85 million in 2023. Whereas, the overall fruits imports were recorded to be $2.8 billion last year. 

China was the top destination for Kazakhstan's fruit imports. Around 50% of Kazakhstan's total fruits imports came from China. In 2023, China exported around $1.46 billion worth of fruits. The Netherlands was the second major market preferred by Kazakhstan for fruit imports. 


The Netherlands was responsible for 26% of Kazakhstan's fruit imports, and is estimated to be $674 million. Uzbekistan, Ecuador, Tajikistan and Poland were the fastest growing markets for Kazakhstan's fruit imports. In terms of import shipments, the top Kazakhstan’s companies were Too Ayakaz, Lion Fruit and ISKER Frut.


The majority of Kazakhstan's berry imports came from China and Uzbekistan. In 2023, Kazakhstan's 40% of the total berries imports came from China followed by Uzbekistan (37%). Also, there was a significant rise in the berries imports from Iran, Netherlands, Turkey and Azerbaijan. Kaz Fruit Company, Ocean Fresh Group and Kimia Bazarganan are some of the prominent berries importing companies of Kazakhstan.


According to Kazakhstan import export data, fruit exports of Kazakhstan were recorded to be $8.84 million in FY 2023. Over 1.33K fruits export shipments were carried out from Kazakhstan last year. Pine nuts were the most shipped fruit items from Kazakhstan covering 31% share of the country’s overall fruits exports. 


The export of pine nuts was recorded to be $2.8 million in 2023. The Czech Republic was the leading destination for Kazakhstan’s pine nuts exports as it was responsible for 90% share of exports. China and Turkey were other significant pine nut importers from Kazakhstan.


Melons and Papayas were the second most exported fruit items from Kazakhstan representing 20% market share. Its exports were recorded to be $1.8 million. In the fiscal year 2023, around 50% share of Kazakhstan’s melons and papayas went to Ukraine followed by Latvia (24%), Germany (16%), Poland (4.8%) and Estonia (1.65%).


According to Kazakhstan export data, some other significant fruits exports  include Apples ($659K), Oranges ($564K), Mandarins ($439K), and Pineapples ($305K). Whereas, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan were the two major destinations for Kazakhstan's berries exports. Kazakhstan berries exports to Uzbekistan were $79 thousand and Tajikistan were $39 thousand during FY 2023.


Kazakhstan’s fruits import and export companies can generate more revenue by reaching out to the more relevant international buyers.
